Abstract

433,402. Converting. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. July 23, 1934, No. 21517. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] In an arrangement comprising a vapour discharge device having grids supplied from a distributer 6 which periodically raises the grid potential from a negative value momentarily to a positive value to effect ignition, an overriding negative bias is applied in the event of fault by the resistances 11 being short circuited. These are bridged by a multi-anode valve 12 in series with a relay 17 which operates in response to fault conditions to complete the short circuit across the resistances through the valve 12. The valve 12 may be of the high vacuum, gas or vapour filled types or may be formed by static contact rectifiers. The winding of the relay 17 may be energized from a current transformer. In a modification the valve 12 is grid controlled, the relay 17 being in the grid circuit and operating in the event of fault to remove a negative bias so that the valve becomes conductive to short circuit the resistances. In this modification the relay 17 may be replaced by an auxiliary valve, normally conducting but which becomes nonconducting on the occurrence of a fault.
