[Class 94 (i)] Relates to machines for filling the slides of cartons of the slide-and-shell type with packets of cigarettes, blocks of confectionery or cakes of soap, and of the kind in which a succession of slides are fed to a succession of filling stations, at each of which an article is fed to the slide. According to the invention, means are provided to ensure that an article already on the slide will not interfere with the introduction of another. The slides 12 are fed through the machine by a conveyer 10 in holders 11, Fig. 2, with the side portions 13 upstanding as shown in Fig. 3. The articles are fed from magazines 15, 16 by pushers 17, 18 at successive stations of rest. The magazine 15 is at the first filling station, and from it an article is fed on to the rear part of the corresponding slide. The article from the magazine 16 is fed on to the front part of the slide. In order to prevent fouling, a blade 27 is lowered towards the slide to prevent the article already on the slide from moving out of position, and to ensure the proper feed of the second article. More than two filling stations may be associated with a plurality of blades.
