Abstract

432,873. Rhythm indicators. PAPE, C., 11, Benzmannstrasse, Sudende, Berlin. Nov. 2, 1933, Nos. 30504 and 30505. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 5, 1934]. [Class 88 (ii)] Relates to rhythm indicators giving visible or audible indications to athletes, driven mechanically, electrically, hydraulically, or pneumatically and mounted either on the person or on the bicycle, boat &c. In Figs. 1, 2 a single or double armed lever 1 is oscillated by a link 4, crank disc 3 and gearing 10, 9 from a clock-spring attached at 71, 5. The spring is wound up by a hand-grip 8 or from the bicycle &c. drive by an automatically disengageable flexible band. The frequency of oscillation is adjusted by turning a button 17 rotating gearing 16, 141 and a screw-thread 14 to adjust a sliding nut 12 bearing on the brake disc 13<1> of a centrifugal governor 11. The position of adjustment is indicated by a disc 2 and stationary mark 2<1>, and is maintained by the engagement of a spring-pressed pin 19 in one of a series of holes in gear-disc 16. An arresting- brake 22 may be applied to a disc 23 on the governor spindle, by a knob 21. The apparatus is contained in a dust-tight and rain-proof casing 28. The indicating arm may be driven by an anchor escapement, Fig. 8 (not shown). A table indicating the adjustment required for given speeds with different bicycle-gearings may be combined with the apparatus, Figs. 9-13, and 23, 24 (not shown). For oarsmen, twin arms 40, Fig. 14, may be arranged to swing in the same direction. In Fig. 15 a number of double-armed levers 56-59 are used, oscillating at different speeds but only one being visible at a time. In Fig. 16 (not shown), the indicating arm is driven by an air wheel through a centrifugal governor. In Fig. 17, the double indicating arm 761 is oscillated by the action of teeth 76 on a spring-loaded arm 771. Figs. 18, 19 (not shown), show magnetic and electromagnetic arrangements, in the latter case with lamps or telephone receivers as signal-devices. Fig. 22 (not shown), shows a magnetic brake for controlling the frequency. Where lamps are used the signals may be reflected by a mirror, e.g. on to the road.
