Abstract
Liquid fuels for Diesel or other engines employing high pressure fuel injection, consists of hydrocarbon liquids within or above the range of kerosine in admixture with small proportions (0,1--5 per cent) of true esters (i.e. other than a lactide or lactone) boiling above 302 DEG F., and containing only the elements, carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Suitable esters are those described in Specification 402,262, or amyl stearate, butyl acetyl ricinoleate or the hexyl ester of wax oxidation acids. The hydrocarbon liquid may have an initial boiling point of 300 DEG F. or above, or a boiling point range of 300--550 DEG F., or may be of higher viscosity than usual. The fuel described in Specification 378,089 may be used. Organic acids such as fatty or naphthenic acids, active halogen compounds such as carbon tetrachloride, benzyl chloride or chlorinated fatty or mineral oils, active sulphur compounds such as sulphurized vegetable or mineral oil or paraffin wax, lead or tin compounds, loadcarrying agents such as deflocculated graphite, materials to facilitate ignition such as nitro compounds, knock inducers such as ethyl nitrate or peroxides, dyes, inhibitors, or gum fluxes such as the naphthenic oil described in Specification 419,690 may be added.
