432,512. Furnace walls and linings. STERLING METALS, Ltd., Northey Road, Foleshill, Coventry, and GASCOIGNE, D. J., Claydon, Priory Road, Kenilworth, both in Warwickshire. July 9, 1934, No. 20055. [Class 51 (ii)] The joints between the lining bricks for the side walls of a high temperature melting furnace such as a cupola are protected from the corrosive action of the slag by using outwardly bulged bricks. The bulge 14 may be formed symmetrically in the face of the brick, or the highest level may be towards the lower edge, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5 respectively, and in the latter case the bulge may overhang the edge, so that the horizontal joint is covered.
