Abstract
Solutions of natural asphalt which is insoluble in benzine are made by using as solvent a mixture of benzine and a small proportion of a compound comprising at least one carbonyl group, which compound itself is not capable of dissolving asphalt. Examples of suitable carbonyl compounds are acetone, acetophenone, 1 : 1 : 3-trimethyl-cyclohexene-(3)-one-(5), cyclohexanone, ethylacetoacetate and a mixture of acetone and ethylamylketone. These are added to benzine in such amount that they form for example from 4 to 6 per cent of the total mixture by weight. The solutions may be used for example as coating, binding and impregnating agents and may contain customary additional substances such as pigments, fillers, drying oils, resins, and the like, as well as the usual solvents.ALSO:Solutions of natural asphalt which is insoluble in benzine are made by using as solvent a mixture of benzine and a small proportion of a compound comprising at least one carbonyl group, which compound itself is not capable of dissolving asphalt.
