Abstract
432,326. Ordnance field carriages. SOC. ANON. DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS HOTCHKISS & CIE, 60, Quai Michelet, Levallois-Perret, Seine, France. Sept. 7, 1934, Nos. 25780 and 25781. Convention dates, Dec. 18, 1933 and June 15, 1934. [Class 92 (i)] Relates to divided-trail gun carriages of the type in which the trail-beams 1, 1<a> are spread about a pivot 3, on a carriagebody 5 that has a longitudinal pivot 6 for the rocking wheel-axle 7, and a bearing for the vertical pivot 19 of the upper-carriage 4. According to the invention, the trail-beams are provided adjacent their pivot with abutment faces 14, 14<a> behind the pivot and abutment faces 15, 15<a> in front of the pivot whereby the carriagebody is clamped when the beams are closed or spread respectively. The longitudinal pivot-pin 6 and the depending beam-pivot 3 form an inverted L-shaped carriage-body. In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the pivot 3 passes through checks 2, 2a on the trail-beams which are engaged by a pin 16 that serves to lock the beams in the open or closed positions. The wheel-axle is provided with a toothed clutch 9 which can be engaged with or disengaged from a similar clutch 10 on the carriage-body by turning a cam 8 about a pivot 8<a>. In the travelling position the gun cradle 26 is connected with the carriage body by a disconnectable link, (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 7, the trail-beams are extended beyond their pivot 3 so that the extensions 70 can engage bosses 72 on the wheel-axle to prevent rocking of the axle when the trail-beams are closed. In the open position, the trail-beams are joined by a disconnectable strut 77. In this construction, in order to retain other movable parts of the carriage in the travelling position, the trail-beams are undercut at the abutment faces 14<a> to engage over projecting ribs 74<a> on the upper-carriage 4, and are recessed to engage with a member 75, Fig. 10, depending from the gun cradle 26.
