[Class 38 (v)] Pneumatic actuation.-A pneumaticallyoperated contactor wherein the moving contact with its operating cylinder and piston are comprised in a unit which is removable independently of the fixed contact has the fixing means for said unit arranged also to comprise the means for establishing the electrical connections to the moving contact. As shown in the Figure the fixed and movable contact structures are mounted separately on parallel horizontal bars 7, 14 surrounded by insulating layers 8, 15, current being led through leads 11, 18 clamped on the fixing bolts 10, 17 which assist in securing the clamps 5, 6 and 12, 13 in position. A magnetic blow-out coil 2 is connected in series circuit with the upper relatively fixed contact 1, the upper contact structure also carrying an arc shoot 31 .. 34. The lower contact 3 is pivotally secured on a piston rod 19 which also carries an insulating block 24 bearing interlock contacts 22, 23 co-operating with a fixed contact 21 carried by an insulated blade spring. As the whole of the lower contact-operating structure is at the potential of the movable contact, the operating cylinder 4 is connected to the air supply by a flexible insulating tube 20 preferably of rubber. Arc horns 26, 27 are provided and a flexible lead 19<a> conducts current directly to the moving contact. The moving contact and its operating structure may be detached as a whole without disturbing the fixed contact structure.
