431,383. Upholstery. HOWARD, J. A., 1, Palace Road, Streatham Hill, London. Dec. 6, 1933, Nos. 34360/33 and 4561/34. [Class 52 (iv)] [See also Group VIII] For the manufacture of upholstery padding of the kind consisting of a mass of fibres held together by an adhesive such as rubber as is described in Specifications 341,936 and 355,004, the hair is brought to the form of a web by passage between downwardly extending surfaces a, b, of which one, namely, as shown the surface b, is stationary. The other surface a may also be stationary ; alternatively, it may consist of an endless band a<1>, Fig. 3 actuated by means of a handle a<2> so as to assist the downward movement of the fibres. The surfaces may be curved so as to impart the desired profile to the padding; usually, the stationary surface b only will be so shaped. The surface b may be adjustably mounted with respect to the surface a by means of bolts and slots b<3>, c<1>. Upholstery springs n may be embedded in the mass of fibres. After treatment with latex, the web is cut into lengths before or after vulcanization. Specification 408,042, [Group VIII], also is referred to.
