Abstract
431,361. Railway &c. crossings &c. WILLIAMS, Ltd., H., and WILLIAMS, D. D., Railway Appliances Works, Darlington. Feb. 8, 1934, No. 4182. [Class 104 (i)] [See also Group XXXII] In spring-operated crossings, trap points, switches, &c., for railways &c., the return movement under the action of the springs d is damped by means of a dashpot having two chambers l, q, in open communication at one end r and separated at the other end by a non-return valve p, The chamber l has a piston m connected to the switch &c. The two chambers are filled with oil &c., so that during opening of the points the piston m moves easily in the chamber l, the oil passing through the valve p. During the return movement, the piston is impeded owing to the oil being allowed to pass from the chamber q to l through a restricted passage in the piston or cylinder wall or valve.
