Abstract
431,001. Tanks. SYNDERGAARD, A. W., 20, Rolighedsvej, Copenhagen. Jan. 23, 1934, No. 2376. [Class 69 (i)] A tank for storing volatile liquids in the open air, comprises a vessel having metal walls 1 and having its top and sides covered with a layer of concrete or other material 2 in direct contact therewith, such layer serving as a heat-insulator and also as a reinforcement for the tank. Preferably also it should be such that the raising of the temperature of a given volume thereof by 1‹ C. requires the supply thereto of a quantity of heat which is not less than would be required similarly to raise the temperature of an equal volume of concrete. On the outside of the concrete, &c., which may be reinforced, may be provided a layer of heat-insulating material 3 having a smaller coefficient of heat conductivity than that of the concrete &c. A further layer of material 4 capable of protecting the layer 2 against the influence of humidity &c., may be provided. The layer 3 may be constituted by plates of wood-fibre, which may be used as forms for the pouring of the inner layer, and the outer layer may be of plaster, galvanized iron sheets, wire-netting, &c. The reinforcement of the concrete may be by means of rods, bands and hooks which connect the layers 2, 3. Breathing-valves and " firegates " may be provided in the upper surface.
