Abstract

430,953. Coated paper. INTERNATIONAL LATEX PROCESSES, Ltd., 10, Lefebvre Street, St. Peter's Port, Guernsey. Sept. 21, 1934, No. 27160. Convention date, Oct. 6, 1933. [Classes 96 and 140] [See also Group III] Paper is rendered resistant to water, oil, or grease by first treating it with an aqueous rubber dispersion such as latex, containing added protein such as casein, glue, gelatine, egg- or blood-albumen or haemoglobin, drying and then coating with a solution of the protective material in an organic solvent, for example lacquers containing nitro-cellulose or cellulose acetate, resins, phenol-aldehyde or alkyd resins or chlorinated rubber. A suitable latex composition comprises ammonia as stabilizer, glue, zinc oxide, sulphur, accelerator, phenylnaphthylamine as antioxidant, casein, caustic soda, and phenol as preservative. The intermediate rubber film may be vulcanized after application of the lacquer. Pre-formed articles such as cartons may be treated.
