[Class 135] The safety cut-off device for gas-heated appliances described in the parent Specification is modified by arranging a thermo-couple 8 in the path of the back-draught gases, the heat of which energizes the couple to close the main gas valve 15 through a suitable electrically operated device such as the solenoid 12. In the liquid heater shown, the normal path of the burnt gases is indicated by the arrow. Any stoppage of gas above the hood 5 causes gas to flow through openings 6 and so energize the thermo-junction 8 the circuit of which is completed by the conductor 11, the solenoid 12, the lead 14, the supply pipe 19, the stay 21 and the casing 1.
