Divided out of 426,404, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 5, 1934. [Class 98 (i)] [See also Group XL] In an exposure meter in which a photoelectric cell is directly electrically connected to an electrical measuring instrument having a pointer moving along a scale, the scale is provided with curves or connecting lines indicating the relation between the deflection of the pointer and the exposure times or diaphragm aperture. The diaphragm apertures may be plotted as ordinates and the exposure times as abscissae of the scale. The pointer may, alternatively, carry the scale. Fig. 3 shows one arrangement in which curves indicating the appropriate diaphragm apertures for given exposure times are used. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the pointer carries a scale of diaphragm apertures and moves over a set of curves indicating exposure times which may be altered according to the sensitivity of the material used by turning the disc carrying the exposure time indicia so that a pointer on the disc indicates the sensitivity of the material in degrees Scheiner. The photo-electric cell used may consist of a flat copper tray, containing an insulated copper plate coated with cuprous oxide, the tray is filled with an electrolyte, e.g. a fatty acid and closed by a glass plate.
