[Class 78 (iv)] [See also Groups XVIII and XV] A coin-freed vending-machine of the kind in which a jib 15, Figs. 1, 2, carrying a grab bucket 40, is moved laterally by rotating a hand wheel 85 to position the grab over a selected part of the platform 5 on which articles are arranged, is characterized by the provision of a collar 100 for limiting the vertical movement of the beam in varying degrees in different directions. The upper edge of the collar is so shaped that the end of the jib may lie over the front corners of the platform 5 but not outside its side and front edges. The grab comprises claws 39 connected by links 38 to a ring 37, the inner ends 41 of the claws being connected to a closing ring 42. After the insertion of a coin, levers 47, 48, 53 to which cables 34, 35, 50 are attached are so controlled by cams 57, 58, 59 driven by a motor 60 that the jib 15 and cables 34, 35 are lowered to place the grab upon a desired area on the platform, the grab closed and raised, the jib lifted to position the grab over the shoot 8 and the cable 34 lowered to release the article. The forward position of the jib may be adjusted by a lever 95 provided with a pin 94 for engagement with a rack 93 on the lever 50, the lever 95 being controlled through a friction clutch 106 by the hand wheel 85. A pin 107 on the pivot 24 of the jib engages lugs 108, 109 on the inside of the collar 100 to prevent the jib striking the rear wall of the machine. A spring 110 assists the jib outwardly during its initial movement from the vertical. Closure plates 121, 124, Fig. 5, prevent fraudulent extraction of articles from the shoot 8, the plate 121 normally being closed and the plate 124 open, the initial opening movement of the plate 121 automatically closing the plate 124.
