Abstract

429,639. Battery coops &c. SYKES, W. C. C., Bashurst, Horsham, Sussex, and COPE & COPE, Ltd., 100, King's Road, Reading, Berkshire. Feb. 7, 1934, Nos. 4012/34 and 3558/35. [Class 5 (ii)] Collapsable battery coops, brooders and the like comprise foundation units each having side walls, consisting of a frame formed by front and back uprights a, a<1> fixed to pairs of angle cross members a<2>, a<3>, and filled in with woven wire a<7>, held spaced apart by longitudinal bars b, b<1> bolted thereto. A longitudinal partition comprising a frame c carried by wire c<1> is arranged in each unit, the frame c being provided with hooks to engage the cross members a<2>, a<3>, and a cross partition member d<1>, d<2> is also provided, a slot d<3> being arranged in the middle of this member to take the frame c : the upper edge of the cross partition is cranked at its middle d<4> and bent to form hooks d<5> at its ends to engage the frame c and the bars b respectively. The side members of the cross partition frame are extended to form hooks d<5> adapted to engage around the bars b<1>. In each of the four cages thus formed a base mat e is fitted resting at the front on the bar b and being attached at its inner end to clips e<1> on the longitudinal partition. This mat is inclined forwardly so that eggs laid thereon roll forwardly -out of the cage. The front of each cage is provided with a gate comprising a grid f, f<1>, f<2> hung by hooks f<3> from the bar b. Brackets h projecting from the front of the cage support water troughs h<1> having detachable end closure pieces through holes in which rubber pipes h<3> pass serving to carry off the overflow from one trough to the next. Food troughs g<2> having inturned lips g<3> are supported by wire hooks g<1> on pairs of pegs g projecting from the sides of the unit, the troughs being adapted to be tilted to the dotted line position, Fig. 4, for filling. Droppings trays i are slidingly mounted on the members a<2>, a<3>. Other units may be secured on either side of the foundation unit.
