Abstract

429,633. Electrolytic cells. KNOWLES, A. E., Benarba, Dulwich Common, London. Jan. 10, 1934, No. 873. [Class 41] In a cell provided with double-walled electrodes open at the top and botton in order to promote circulation of the electrolyte, the effect is enhanced by making the distance between the two inner faces of the walls not less thar the sum of the distances between each outer face and the associatec diaphragm. In the electrode shown each wall consists of an upper plate ( and a lower plate d separated by a gap. Perforations may be formed along the lower part of each plate The plates are separated by vertical conducting bars e extending though the whole depth. The bars are positioned by inward corrugations on the plates and connected to the plates by spot welding. One bar is situated at one end of the electrode and the other bar at a distance from the opposite end. Each bar has a tubular extension g in which a copper conductor h is secured. A baffle plate f may be secured below the open bottom of the electrode by bars welded at intervals to the plates d.
