Abstract

429,601. Supplying lubricant to engine crank cases. LIQUID MEASUREMENTS, Ltd., and GUERMONT, M. E., Victoria Road, North Acton, London. Dec. 1, 1933, No. 33781. [Class 12 (iii)] [See also Group XVII] Lubricant is applied to an engine crank case from a sealed oil container which may remain in position after being emptied, the socket for the container forming a breather for the crank case. As shown, the crank case 1 is formed with a socket 3a having a stepped base 8 to take containers 5 of different sizes. The base 8 and the cover 6 have knives 4, 7, for piercing the container, and holes 16 are formed in the cover 6 so that the socket 3a acts as a breather. Instead of the knives 4, 7, a long knife, which can pierce both top and bottom faces of the container, may be guided in the cover 6. The socket 3a may be separate from the crank case and fitted in the usual oil filling hole. Alternatively, the socket may be fitted upon the chassis, dash, or any other part of an automobile, and connected to the crank case by a flexible pipe.
