Abstract

[Class 3 (i)] [See also Group XXXVII] A plurality of sign elements 1, 1<1>, 111 are illuminated in succession by thermal switches 10, and all extinguished subsequently simultaneously by another thermal switch 4. One pole of a supply plug 2 is connected in parallel to one contact of each of the lamps by way of strips 3, 3<1>, 3<11>, switch 4, and strips 7<11>, 7<1>, 7. The other contacts of the lamps are connected to the return pole of the plug 2 by way of the switches 10, which consist of a conducting wire tensioned by a spring 11 and surrounded by an electrically insulated coil 9. When the lamp in the element 1 is lit the coil 9 is heated by current shunted across the lamp, and warms the wire 10 to allow a contact 12 on the spring 11 to touch a fixed contact 13. The lamp in element 1<1> then lights up and the coil 9<1> therein is heated. When the lamp in the last element is lit the bimetallic thermal switch 4 becomes heated and the contact 5, 6 is broken. To ensure a quick break the bimetallic strip carries an armature 15 which is attracted by a permanent magnet 14.
