Abstract
429,079. Magnetic combs. CHAPMAN, A. E., 125, Stanley Park Road, Carshalton, Surrey. April 27, 1934, No. 26238. Divided application. [Class 81 (ii)] A magnetic comb is characterized by the provision on an ordinary comb, of a U-shaped magnetic element the limbs of which lie against the sides of the comb. The magnetic element may be coated with electric insulating material such as enamel to prevent removal of static electricity from the surface of the body. In the Figure a comb d of insulating material is enclosed in a U- shaped sheet c of enamel-covered magnetic material formed with teeth which may overlie all the teeth of the comb or, as shown may be of staggered formation. An additional U-shaped magnetized sheet may be made to embrace the comb such that in one position it reinforces the magnetic action, and in the reverse position it acts as a keeper. Instead of permanent magnets electromagnets may be used. The Provisional Specification refers to a comb made of permanently magnetized material, adjacent teeth of which are of the same or of opposite polarity, or made from two or more sheets of magnetic material separated by non-magnetic material and having teeth of opposite polarity.
