428,700. Wireless transmitting systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London, and TRINGHAM, W. S. L., Puttenham, Guildford. Nov. 17, 1933, No. 32100. [Class 40 (v)] A modulation monitoring device for use with television and other radio transmitters comprises a switching arrangement for applying to a cathode-ray tube voltages derived from the modulating source and from rectifiers coupled to postmodulation stages, comparison of the cathode-ray deflections serving to check the correct working of the transmitter. As shown, the switch comprises two arms A1 A2 rigidly connected and moving to three positions on twelve contacts 1 ... 12. The cathode-ray control circuit T has a resistance shunt R and is connected through choke coils CH1, CH2 to two banks each of three interconnected contacts 6 .. 8, 9 .. 11. Contact 12 is connected through a battery B to a tapping on the resistance M which serves as the modulation input for the modulating valve-pair VI, V2. Contact 5 is connected to a full-wave rectifier D2 coupled by coil C2 to the output of the valves V1, V2. Contact 4 is connected to a similar rectifier D1 coupled to a later stage of the transmitter. Contacts 1, 2, 3 are earthed. By moving the switch arms A1 A2 voltages derived from M, or from the rectifiers D1, D2 can be applied to the cathode-ray input circuit T and the results compared. Instead of the inductive couplings C1, C2, capacity or resistance couplings may be used between the post-modulation stages and the rectifier circuits.
