[Class 99 (i)] [See also Group XXII] A threaded collar &c. 6 is secured to a pipe bend 4 by arranging the parts in a recess 2 in the body 1 of a press and pressing the two together by means of an axial plunger whereby a serrated threaded &c. surface 5 on one of the members is pressed into the contacting surface of the other member. Part of the opening in the collar &c. 6 may be square as at 8, Fig. 3, so that the tube when fixed therein cannot turn. In the modification, Fig. 6, the collar 6 has a tapered recess provided with a fine thread 12 into which the end of the pipe bend 13 is expanded by a taper punch. As applied to a T-piece, Fig. 7, the collars are attached by pressing as above and the branch 47 secured by means of a nipple 49 screwed into the body 45 which is faced at the part adjoining the hexagon 48. By another method, Fig. 9, the collar 6 and pipe 4 are pressed together by a plunger 7 having a shoulder 17 engaging the ends of the pipe and collar, the latter being received in a taper recess 24 acting to press the collar against the pipe which is allowed to descend during the operation. The pipe union, Fig. 10, comprises a pipe and collar of the kind shown in Fig. 6, and a similar pipe with expanded end connected in line by a sleeve nut 36 with the aid of conical rings 35.
