Abstract
428,394. Wave-producing apparatus. GLENFIELD & KENNEDY, Ltd., and PRICE, O. A., Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. Nov. 16, 1933, No. 31939. [Class 26] A wave-producing apparatus comprises a plurality of displacers which are caused to reciprocate or oscillate in phase at all times, variation in wave formation being produced by varying the length of stroke of one displacer relatively to the other or others. To this end, the crank arm of each displacer may be of variable length, or two variable or invariable cranks connected by gearing and linkage-rods may be employed. In the form shown, parallel rods 12, 13 carry cranks 10, 11 connected to a compensating-lever 7 by rods 8, 9. The lever 7 is pivoted at 6 to the displacer-operating beam 4, the pivot being at the centre of the lever or displaced towards one end thereof according to the length of stroke required; for this purpose, the pivot pin may be disposed in a block movable in a slot in the lever. The rods 8, 9 are driven at different speeds through gears 14, 15 differing as regards the number of their teeth and meshing with a spur wheel 16 upon a rod 17 driven by an electric motor. Two rocking beams are provided for each displacer with corresponding cranks and connecting-members ; and when three displacers are employed the length of stroke of the centre one may be constant. The displacer may take the form of an oscillating flap driven from the lever 7 by a bell-crank.
