Convention dates, July 11 and July 12. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXIV] A material, for insertion between members in frictional contact with each other, comprises a wire netting a, b embedded in a plastic mass c of asbestos, graphite, and synthetic resins such as urea-formaldehyde or phenolformaldehyde condensation products or similar binding and hardening agents. The material is rolled into a plate and hardened. The total thickness d is only slightly greater than the thickness e of the wire netting a, b. The process of manufacture consists in rolling out a thin backing of the plastic composition in a rolling machine, introducing the wire netting with a further addition of the composition, and subjecting the whole to further rolling so that the composition is pressed through the netting and rolled out into a thin top layer. The plate may be hardened wholly or in part in a press with or without the aid of heat. Strips of the material may be inserted between the leaves of a leaf spring, or annular discs thereof may be placed between the faces of a slip coupling.
