Dec. 18, 1933, No. 35611. [Class 39 (ii)] [See also Group XXXVI] A process of manufacturing a twin leading- in conductor for thermionic valves comprises coating a conductor with an adherent layer of glass, allowing the glass to cool until it is no longer plastic, surrounding this layer with a tubular outer conductor and elongating the whole, with concurrent reduction of diameter, either by drawing through dies or by a like process. Subsequently, the conductor may be heated to soften the glass whereby the insulating sheath is again rendered continuous. The entry of air during the drawing process may be prevented by causing the outer conductor to adhere to the ends of the inner conductor where they protrude from the glass sheath. The inner conductor may be a copper-clad nickel iron wire which is sheathed with glass, the glass silvered to render it conductive and a copper outer conductor then formed thereon by electrodeposition. For sealing through glass, the conductor may be coated with " borate." Specifications 24879/99 and 179,779, [both in Class 36], are referred to.
