427,614. Microscopes. ZEISS, C., [Firm of], Carl-Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. Nov. 10, 1934, No. 32411. Convention date, Nov. 13, 1933. [Class 97 (i)] In a microscope stage fitted with a condenser, the stage is provided with an abutment surface preventing upward axial displacements of the condenser, and with holding elements preventing lateral displacements of the condenser, only one of these elements being movable on the stage and at least that part of the condenser mount which co-operates with the movable element having its surface inclined to the axis of the condenser. In the form shown, the stage b is provided with a recess d coaxial with the illumination aperture c, and having a plane upper surface e, and into this recess extend two projections f of the stage. The inner surface of each projection comprises a cylindrical part g and a conical part h, both coaxial with the recess d. The portion of the condenser mount entering the recess has a plane annular surface n abutting against the surface e to prevent upward axial displacement of the condenser, and cylindrical and conical surfaces o, p respectively, corresponding to the surfaces g, h. A screw i threaded through the stage opposite the projections f engages the surface p, so that the pressure which it exerts has components parallel and at right-angles to the axis of the condenser. Instead of shaping the condenser mount as above described, a condenser of ordinary form may be inserted in a sleeve having the appropriate external surface.
