[Class 97 (i)] A motion-picture projecting-apparatus of the kind comprising in combination a screen, images associated with the screen, and lighting means for throwing a silhouette of the images on the screen so as to obtain a motion picture effect is characterized in that the images comprise a plurality of outlines of the same object in different attitudes provided on a plate at an angle to the screen and having transparent portions outlining the images, and a plurality of lights corresponding in number to the different image outlines and adapted to be lit in a definite order are positioned so that some are on different sides of the vertical central plane of the screen and are respectively positioned relatively to the images so that on illumination in a definite order they successively throw silhouettes of the images on the screen in overlapping relation. As shown in Fig. 2, a screen 13 is hinged to a box 10 containing electric light bulbs 11 separated by partitions 12 and is provided with a strut 14 notched to engage a screw 15. A film 17 bearing images distorted to produce an undistorted shadow on the screen 13 is supported on a rack 18 and rests against a short cover section 16. The switching device for the lamps, shown in Fig. 3, has three circular pathways 21, 22, 23 comprising blocks 24 which are connected with one pole of one of the lamps, the other pole of each lamp being connected to a metallic pointer, a battery being connected in the circuit. Each block 24 carries a pin joined to one of four insulated superimposed metallic plates having ears 32-35 connected to the lamps. The metallic pointer is placed in either of the pathways 21, 22 or 23 and rotated to give a motion picture effect. The blocks 24 overlap at the joints to render the change over from one picture to another gradual. By providing films with images consisting of groups of similar objects, the illusion of continuous movement across the screen may be provided.
