[Class 81 (ii)] Apparatus for hair drying and like purposes comprises a fan for generating an air current and means positioned in said air current adapted for removal, heating, and replacement. A fan 2 driven through suitable gearing by periodic movement of a rackcarrying lever 11 drives a stream of air through the outlet tube 4 which may be of thin steel tube and detachable from the fan casing 1. A tube 16, for example of aluminium, of substantial length and thickness, fits into the tube 4 and is removable for heating over a spirit, gas, or oil burner, or otherwise. A bayonet slot 18 co-operating with a peg within the tube 4, or other suitable locking device is provided. A number of interchangeable heating tubes may be employed. These may have internal and external flutings or projections, or contain spiral vanes or the like to facilitate heat transfer. Each tube has a wire loop 21 serving as a holder and also as a guard or distance piece when the apparatus is in use. The tube 4 may be formed near the end fitting on to the nozzle of the casing 1 with a number of slots to reduce the passage of heat to said casing. The casing nozzle is then tapered and projects beyond the slots. The tube 16 may be supported in a ring or tube of asbestos. The fan may be at either end of the tube containing the heater so that air is drawn or propelled thereover. Thus the heated tube may be positioned so that air is drawn through it, then through inlet openings in the side of the casing 1, and blown out through a tangential tube. In this case a partition separates the fan from the mechanism chamber. The fan may be operated by clockwork which can be wound by periodic movement of the lever 11.
