Abstract
427,030. Guided skip hoists; bunkers. MITCHELL, F. G., Albyns, near Romford, Essex. Oct. 13, 1933, Nos. 28404/33 and 32628 /34. [Class 78 (iii)] [See also Group X] A storage bunker 10 is provided with a vertically movable shoot 14 which rests on top of the material 24 in the bunker and ensures discharge thereof into the bunker at the lowest possible level to minimize breakage. A hopper 18, receiving material from a source 17, is raised vertically by a cable 22 under the control of wheels 19 and guides 20, and on reaching the shoot 14 lifts same to the top of the bunker and while rising automatically discharges its contents down the shoot, which is left in position on top of the material 24 when the hopper descends. The hopper 18 may have two compartments, each with an outlet closed by a hinged door 27, 28. These doors are held closed by toggle-links 29, 30, the toggle being broken by the abutment of a pivoted arm 36 against stops 38 on the shoot 14. The arm 36 is pivoted to a link 37 which can be turned to remove the arm 36 out of the path of the stop 38 and so prevent opening of one or both doors 27, 28. Curved rails 39, 40 located near the bottom of the guides 20 effect closing of the doors by engaging contact rollers 31, 41 on the toggle links 30. The shoot 14 is guided in a slot extending between the points 12 and 13 in a substantially vertical side of the bunker 10, and the shoot carries hexagonal wheels 15 over which rides a curtain 16 fixed at 55 and, if desired, weighted at its free end 61. The curtain is built up of linked plates each having its upper end turned away from the bunker, and serves to close the slot 12, 13 gradually as the bunker becomes filled. An abutment on the vertically sliding frame carrying the shoot 14 bears against the outer face of the curtain 16 to hold it up against the pressure of the material 24. Specification 397,173 is referred to.
