Abstract

<PICT:0426763/IV/1> <PICT:0426763/IV/2> <PICT:0426763/IV/3> In a nozzle device for producing extremely fine threads from cellulose or the like, particularly for use in producing line-screens for colour photography, thin plates a<1>, a<2>, a<3>, advantageously of metal, and in number depending on the number of threads to be formed are laid side by side and secured together to form a block, the plates being provided with holes or perforations b<1>, b<2>, b<3> which coincide in the block to form channels B<1>, B<2>, B<3> passing completely through the block and separate from one another, and a slot c<1>, c<2> or c<3> being formed in each plate extending from one of the holes to the edge d of the plate, the slots in adjacent plates in the block extending from different holes and not overlapping as far as the outlets at the edge of the plates. The plates have holes e through which bolts f pass, serving with the lateral plates g to press the plates tightly together. Feed-tubes h supply different solutions to each channel B<1>, B<2> and B<3>, e.g. a red solution to B<1>, a green to B<2> and a blue to B<3>, then the red solution can pass along all the slots c<1> in plates a<1> to the edge d of the block whence it is extruded to form red threads which lie on a support extending beneath the nozzle in proper sequence next to and in contact with green and blue threads which have been formed by the solutions from the channels B<2> and B<3> passing along the slots c<2> and c<3> respectively. The cross-section of the threads depends on that of the apertures and if these have a height greater than the thickness of the plates, the threads are extruded as rectangles balanced on their narrow sides. Thin distance plates i may be inserted between the slotted plates a<1>, a<2>, a<3>, these distance plates having holes b<1>, b<2>, b<3>, but no slots, and these may extend a short distance beyond the end of the block to prevent premature contact of the extruded threads which may also be cooled within the reach of the extensions of the distance plates to harden them rapidly. The plates may be stamped from metal or celluloid, and while the slotted plates may be 0,5 mm. thick, the thickness of the distance plates is 0,2 mm. or less.
