Abstract
426,513. Making foam. MERRYWEATHER & SONS, Ltd., and OSBORNE, J. H., Greenwich Road, Greenwich, and MILLER, L. C., 8, St. Austell Road, Lewisham, both in London. Jan. 17, 1934, No. 1691. [Class 47 (ii)] A method of making fire - extinguishing foam consists in directing a high-velocity jet of water through an injector cone or Venturi tube and introducing into the Venturi foamgenerating solution and air or a gas, other than exhaust gas from an internalcombustion engine, under pressure. As shown, the injector comprises a pressure-water inlet 4<d>, nozzle 4<c>, throat 4<a>, and chamber 4<b>. A source of compressed gas, such as a compressed air main, is connected to a coupling 5. The gas passes by a pressure-reducing valve 6, stopcock 7 and non-return valve 8 to the inlet 10 into the injector chamber 4b. Foam-generating solution is supplied from a tank 3 to the chamber 4<b> by pipes 12, 14 and a pump 13 driven by a fluid motor 16 operated by compressed gas supplied by pipe 17. In a modification, an air compressor driven by a motor, such as a petrol engine which also drives the pump 13, is embodied in the apparatus, which is then portable and only needs connection to a source of water under pressure. Specification 409,494 is referred to.
