Abstract

426,262. Vehicle windows; window regulators. TERNSTEDT MANUFACTURING CO., 6307, West Fort Street, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Vanvoorhees, H. E.; 6307, West Fort Street, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Aug. 30, 1933, No. 23994. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1932. [Class 20 (iii)] A window for vehicles such as motor-cars, motor boats, railway motor coaches, and aircraft of the kind comprising a sliding and a pivoted panel has means for connecting the pivoted to the sliding panel so that both can be raised and lowered as a unit into the well. Spring-pressed dogs 23 pivoted in the bottom rail of the pivoted panel project into engaging position with a T-shaped catch 26 riveted to an extension of the bottom rail 6 of the sliding panel and when engaged connect both as stated. The dogs 23 are withdrawn by cams 22 on the arms carrying the dogs and a cam 40 rotated by handle 41 and spindle 39, the ends of the arms being then engaged with fixed stops 35 on a plate 33 riveted to the lock-board to maintain the pivoted sash in raised position. In order to prevent rotation of the handle when the sliding window is lowered a stud 38, Fig. 9 on the bottom rail of the sliding sash is adapted when the sash is fully raised to separate the spring-controlled arms 29 and thereby to free locking dogs thereon from a recessed boss 40 on the handle spindle. An additional retaining member for the handle consists of a spring-pressed crosspiece in a slot in the spindle adapted to engage a recessed flanged sleeve 48 in the lock-rail this cross-piece being disengaged by a pressstud 43 projecting through the handle boss. The sliding sash has an H-section rail to engage the edge of the pivoted sash when closed and is guided at the forward edge by a member 10 secured to a continuation of the rail 6 by a plate 9.
