Convention date, Oct. 12, 1933. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (v)] [See also Groups XX and XVIII] A sensitive pendulum apparatus for gravity determination is mounted on a tripod stand in which the legs are made of material having negligible thermal expansion, e.g. the alloy known under the Registered Trade Mark " Invar." Each leg is a triangular frame with two posts 33 and a cross member 34 and is pivoted to lugs 22<a> on a triangular top plate 22, Fig. 12, by pivot pin 34b and screw 34a. The bottom of each leg is pivoted at 35 to a block 37 clamped at 38 to a peg 36 driven into the earth. Fig. 13 shows a seat for the operator in which the weight is borne by pegs 40<a>, 40<b>, 40<c> remote from the feet 36 of the tripod. A girder 39, preferably foldable for transport, connects the pegs 40<a>, 40b, and carries the saddle 42. Girders 41 extend from the girder 39 to the peg 40<c> and carry a foot rest 43. A conical wind shield 44 is carried by the seat support.
