Abstract

425,989. Cigarette-making machines. RUAU, F. F., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. Sept. 21, 1933, No. 26100. [Class 130] In a cigarette-making machine of the continuous rod type in which cigarettes 1 are delivered endwise onto a tape 2, Figs. 1 and 2, two rotatable members 3, 4 provided with suction devices are located at different points laterally of the said tape to remove alternate cigarettes therefrom and to transfer them to collector belts 5. Each rotatable member is formed at its two ends with a cigarettereceiving recess, the wall of which is provided with a slot or aperture 12 constituting a port of the suction device, and is mounted on a spindle 6 rotatable by gears 7, 8, and suction is applied to the rotatable member by a pipe 9 through a valve 11. This valve 11 is provided with an aperture 10 which permits communication between the pipe 9 and a suction device to move a cigarette transversely into contact with a slot 12 and transfer it to the belt 5, and also a cut-away portion 17 which opens the suction device to the atmosphere through a slot 14 to release the cigarette when it arrives at the belt 5. In a modification, Fig. 5, in which the tipped ends of the cigarettes on both belts are required to face in the same direction, a single member 3 is provided which is arranged to transfer alternate cigarettes to one of the belts, the remaining cigarettes being deflected by a stationary element 16 onto the second belt. According to the Provisional Specification the suction devices may be replaced by mechanically - operated grippers.
