[Class 83 (iv)] In a plate bevelling &c. machine cutters 2, 3 co-operating with cutters 4, 5 are axially adjustable to vary the overlap of cutters to allow of severing a square or bevelled edge without inclining the cutter head. When arranged as in Fig. VI, the cutter severs along the line X. The plate 1 may be fixed to a support 6 and the cutter head movable on a track 31 or vice versa. The plate or the machine may be transversely adjustable. A stretched wire 40 forms a gauge. In the machine shown in Fig. 1, the plate is supported on a table 6. Spindles 9, 10, on a carriage 7 mounted on tracks 31, are geared by wheels 13. The spindle 9 is adjusted axially by a hand wheel 15 connected through a swivel joint 18 to a wheel 21 which rotates an externally screwed bush 23 engaging a slide block 24 secured between plates 25. The cutters are rotated by a wheel 29 driven by an electromotor and through gearing 37, 38 moves the carriage along the track 31. The spindle 10 may be axially adjustable. The spindles carry cutters 2, 3, 4, 5. The spindle 9 may be adjusted to overlap the cutters 2, 4 and 3, 5 or the cutter 2 may co-operate with the cutter 5. A seat 40 is provided for the operator. The cutters C may be arranged as in Fig. IX.
