Abstract

An artificial resin composition having good mechanical and electrical properties comprises an intimate mixture, e.g. by melting of an aniline-formaldehyde resin of the resole or novolac type and a resole condensation product obtained from formaldehyde and m-cresol or xylenols or substances containing high percentages of these compounds. Fillers, colouring matters and other additions, e.g. wood meal, asbestos, metal oxides, salts and bleaching agents may be added. The added substances are preferably of a diamagnetic nature. A suitable proportion of aniline resin to cresol or xylenol resin is 2 : 1, but this may vary in either direction and may for instance be 1 : 1. The compounded resin composition may be hardened by heat.
