557,558. Resinous compositions. BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS, Ltd. May 20, 1942, No. 6884. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1941. [Class 2 (iii)] A resinous composition comprises a blend of an amino-triazine-formaldehyde resin and an amino-aldehyde resin, produced by compounding together in the absence of solvent the component resins, each of which has been separately prepared in the solid state. The amino-triazineformaldehyde resin may be replaced wholly or in part by a dicyandiamide-formaldehyde resin. The component resins are preferably separately prepared as fine ground powders, and the compounding may be effected on hot rolls. Specified amino-triazine-formaldehyde resins are melamine-formaldehyde resin and phenyl-melamineformaldehyde resin, and specified aminoaldehyde resins are aniline-formaldehyde resins, aniline-furfuraldehyde resins and toluidinealdehyde resins, which may be modified, e.g. by means of shellac, rosin, phenol, cresol or xylenol. Specified optional ingredients of the compositions are : heat-treated asbestos, zinc stearate, wood meal, wood flour, cotton flock, alpha cellulose, mica, glass fibres, other fibrous fillers, and thio-urea or urea resins. The blended resinous compositions may be used in the preparation of moulded articles, or they may be dissolved or suspended in liquid media to form coating compositions. Examples are given of the preparation of melamine-formaldehyde, dicyandiamide-formaldehyde, anilinecresol-formaldehyde and aniline-shellac-formaldehyde resins, and of blends thereof.
