Abstract

425,516. Soldering-irons. HASSETT, D. L., 19, East Terrace, and MARTIN, T. J., 90, Column Road, both in Cardiff. June 27, 1934, No. 18959. [Class 83 (iv)] A soldering-iron with angularly adjustable bit has the bit connected to the handle by a ball and socket joint, the two parts of which may be gripped together to retain the bit in adjusted position. A handle rod 3 which passes through a spring - pressed tube 1 with flared end 2, is screwed at 6 to engage a two-part chuck 7 held together by a split ring 8 and closed by the flared end of the tube. The jaws contain a groove 10 to receive the ball end 12 of a rod 13 carrying the bit 14, and is also provided with recesses 11 so that the bit may be arranged at right angles to the handle. In order to adjust the angular position of the bit the tube 1, which is bound round with cane is pushed down against the action of the spring 15 and after the bit is positioned it is fixed by releasing the tube. The grip may be rendered tighter by screwing the rod 3 against the ball. A number of bits on ball-ended rods of different lengths may be used interchangeably.
