[Class 62 (v)] A stair-carpet fastener of the swinging-arm type secured in carpet-engaging position by a sliding movement comprises an arm g, one end portion of which is adapted to lie between the lugs c of the attachment piece fixed to the stair and has pivots f slidable in guideways r extending from the outer end of the side parts to a position remote from the inner end. A horizontal projection e between the lugs c engages a slot j in the arm and in the forward position of the arm, Fig. 6, its end h engages a rounded recess k in the rear overhanging end of the projection e so that the arm can be swung away from the carpet. By sliding the arm outwardly when in carpet-engaging position a shoulder l on the arm engages under the overhanging inner end of the projection e to secure the arm in place. The shoulder l or the guideways r may be inclined so as to force the arm against the carpet. Detachment of the parts after they have been mounted on the stairs is prevented by the ends n of the guideways r. In a modification, the slot and projection e are omitted and the arm has bevelled sides engaging under correspondingly inclined faces on the inner ends of the lugs c.
