Abstract

<PICT:0425163/III/1> A process for making heat or sound insulating coatings consists in forming, in air, a uniform suspension containing a substantial proportion of fibrous material, immediately thereafter drawing the suspension into a current of air to which the suspension converges at a point of low pressure therein, and blowing the suspension, by means of the said air current, on to the surface to be coated, while simultaneously but separately spraying an adhesive on to the surface. Asbestos fibre may be supplied to a hopper 1 and carried by the belt 2 to a rapidly revolving brush 5 so that it falls, as a suspension, down the hopper 6. At 7 the suspension is injected, by a current of air from the fan 9, into the hose 10, from which it is sprayed on to the surface to be coated in the manner described in the parent Specification. Non-fibrous particles, such as Portland cement particles, may be injected into the suspension before or after it is drawn into the air current, and a solid ingredient of the adhesive may be so injected, in which latter case the liquid ingredient thereof is simultaneously but separately sprayed on to the surface.
