Abstract

425,047. Controlling air supply to stoves. BELL'S HEAT APPLIANCES, Ltd., and SCOTT, C. L., 157, Queen Victoria Street, London. Sept. 5, 1933, No. 24594. [Class 126] [See also Group XIII] In a stove, one or more thermostatic elements shielded from the direct action of the flue-gases are arranged to be responsive to variations in temperature of one or more of the cooking or other heat-consumption points and, independently, to the temperature of the firebox or barrel, solely or mainly through the medium of heat radiated therefrom, and to actuate valve means for controlling the supply of combustion air to the fire. In the form shown in the Figure, the end of a mercury-filled capillary tube 12 is located in the flue 11 in close proximity to the hot-plate 3, and is protected by a sleeve 13. The tube 12 is carried down close to the Bourdon tube 9, and then in spiral form to a point near the firebarrel 4, where it is formed into a small coil 14. Thence it is looped back on itself and is connected to the Bourdon tube, which actuates an air-valve 7 through the arm 8. A sleeve 15 shields the spiral and coil 14. In another form, a single thermostatic element has two or more capillary branch tubes, one of which is associated with the fire-barrel and the other or others with the heat-consumption point or points. Alternatively, one thermostatic element may be responsive to the temperature variations of one or more heat-consumption points, and another to firebox temperatures. The second element is so placed as to become operative at the same temperature as the first.
