[Class 138 (i)] [See also Group XXVIII] A method of cleaning feathers and similar stuffing in pillows, cushions, &c., consists in introducing a jet of air into the envelope enclosing the stuffing and varying the direction of the jet. Means may be provided for withdrawing the air from the envelope. In the construction shown in Fig. 6, a pillow P is provided with a nozzle member St<1> of double conical form which is adapted to hold detachably an inserted nozzle B<1> connected to an airblowing device. The member St<1> is flexible and when not in use the outer half may be folded and tucked inside the envelope, a press fastener retaining it in folded position. The member may be detachably fastened in the pillow as shown in Fig. 9, in which case it is provided with a ring R<1> co-operating with a rubber ring R<2>. Fig. 10 shows a nozzle in the form of a tube with an inner pipe L adapted to convey air through a coarse mesh filter F<1> into the pillow. The air is withdrawn through a fine-mesh filter F<2> and an outer pipe A to a dust bag B. For the purpose of cleaning the filters, a control device may be arranged at O by which the connection to the dust bag may be closed, and the pipe A may be connected to the pipe L so that the flow of air in the pipe A is reversed. Instead of a dust bag, a vacuumcleaner may be attached to the nozzle member, the pipe L being open to the atmosphere, or being connected to an air-blowing device.
