[Class 137] [See also Group XIII] A portable air-conditioning apparatus comprises a cabinet 1 housing a compressor 6, a water-cooled condensing coil 9, and an evaporating coil 3 over which a stream of air to be conditioned is driven by a fan 44. A fan 16 blows a separate stream of air over the surface of the water 17 in the condenser tank 10, the liquid forming a spray by means of an agitator 13. The water level in the tank is maintained by a float and valve 36 opening or closing a pipe 34 communicating with supply tanks 32, 33. Water collecting on the evaporating coil drips to a pan 30 connected by a pipe 31 to the tank 10. Any easily compressible gas such as sulphur dioxide, ethyl chloride, may be used in the system.
