Abstract

424,456. Refrigerating. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. April 4, 1934, Nos. 10223 and 10224. Convention dates, April 5, 1933 and May 29, 1933. [Class 29] Absorption systems.-Solid absorbents for reversing systems, especially substances which swell up during absorption of the refrigerant, are prepared ready for charging into the generator-absorber vessels by treatment in an evacuated vessel to which a measured quantity of refrigerant is introduced in the liquid state, the heat of absorption serving to promote evaporation of the refrigerant and thereby hastening the period of complete absorption. As shown in Fig. 2, the absorbent may be placed in boxes 2 in a vessel 1 having a connection to a vacuum pump 3, and liquid refrigerant is supplied from a bottle 4, supported by a weighing machine 9, through a valved pipe 5 and a pipe 7 reaching to the bottom of the vessel 1. Each box may contain the charge for one generator-absorber,and if equal sized boxes are employed for different sizes of generatorabsorbers, the boxes with the smaller charges of absorbent are placed in the upper tier. The material may be subjected to movement during treatment. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the evacuated vessel 31 is adapted for rotation by a motor 34. The absorbent is placed in one compartment 41 and the refrigerant in another compartment 45 separated by a partition 43 with a central aperture 42. In another arrangement the absorbent may be placed in a series of drum-like vessels having openings for access of refrigerant vapour in their vertical walls, and mounted in a rotary evacuated vessel charged with the required amount of refrigerant.
