REFRIGERATOR CONTAINER Filed Kay 24, 1933 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor Z3 W Mar/rs ?atented May 2%, 1934 REFRIGERATOR CONTAINER Robert Wallace Marks, McGehee, Ark.
Application May 24, 1933, Serial No. 67236842 l illaims.
This invention relates to a container for holding perishable fruits, vegetables and other articles, the general object of the invention being to provide a central compartment in the conil. tainer for receiving ice or other cooling medium so that the articles will keep in good condition for a long time.
This invention also consists in certain other ieatu of construction and in the combination arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the ac- .nying drawings and specifically pointed out -n the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, ref- 1 cc will be had to the accompanying drawings =ein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in is a top plan view of the invention.
s a longitudinal sectional View.
s a bottom view.
s a tr lsverse sectional view.
the .uneral 1 indicates the c 'acle which is preferably of cyllndrical sha and the numeral 2 indicates the bottom which is spaced slightly from the lower of the body and rests upon the hoop 3 placed in the lower end of the body. A hoop i is also placed in the upper end of the body below the .pper end thereof ior forming a seat for the er 5. The body 1 is formed of a single piece to edges overlapping, as
' i i i material having 1.
in at 6 Figure l, and straps T extend under e bottom 2 through openings in the lower end the body and then up along the sides of the body and through openings in the upper end thereof and then the straps pass inwardly and have their inner ends connected to a ring 8 which provided with the eyes 9 to which the handle 4e 1c is connected. As shown, two of these straps used and they are arranged at right angles to each other, but it will, of course, be understood that as many straps can be used as desired.
A tubular member 11 is placed in the central part of the body and extends from the bottom 2 to the top 5 and is adapted to receive ice or it may receive holder 12 for dry ice. This holder, when used, is spaced from the walls of the tubular part 11, as shown. A pivoted lid 13 closes the upper end of the chamber formed by the member 11 and has perforations 14 therein for the escape of any gas from the chamber. The lid or cover 5 is formed with an opening for providing access to the chamber formed by the 55. member 11 and the lid 13 is pivoted to the cover.
(m. 22ll--9a) Partitions 11' extend radially from the tubular member 11 to the body 1 for dividing the space in the body into a plurality of vertically arranged chambers.
Horizontal partitions 15 divide the vertical chambers into compartments for receiving articles, as baskets 16 of strawberries or the like. The partitions 15 have notches 1'7 therein for pert itting circulation of air and they may be formed of corrugated paper.
lhe parts of the device are formed of nonconducting material so that articles placed therein will be chilled by the ice placed in the member 11 or the member 12 when dry ice is used and the articles will be kept fresh for a long time as the atmospheri air cannot reach them and will have but little efiect on the non-conducting walls of the device.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device or" the class described, a container having a flange at its lower end depending below the bottom thereof, said flange having openings therein, straps passing under the body and through said openings and up along the sides of the body, a ring spaced from the top of the container, with the upper ends of the straps extending inwardly over the upper end of the container and connected with said ring, and a handle connected with \JhE: ring.
2. A device of the class described comprising a container having a bottom flange depending below the bottom of the container and an upper flange, said flanges having openings therein,
straps passing under the bottom through the openings in the lower flange and up along the sides of the body and then through the openings in the upper flange, a ring of smaller diameter than the container and located above the top thereof, the upper ends of the straps extending inwardly and upwardly and having their inner ends connected with the ring, and a handle pivotally connected with the ring. 0
3. In a device of the class described, a container including a bottom and a removable top, a flange formed at the lower end of the body of the container and extending below the bottom thereof and having openings therein, a hoop contacting the inner wall of the flange at the under face of the bottom, straps passing under the bottom and through the hoop and the openings in the flange and up along the sides of the body, the upper end of the body having openings therein through which the straps pass, a hoop in the upper end of the body, a lid resting on the said hoop, said straps passing upwardly a slight distance between the lid and the internal upper wall of the body and then passing inwardly and upwardly, a ring to which the inner ends of the straps are connected, and a handle pivotally connected with the ring.
4. In a device of the class described, a container including a bottom and a removable top, a flange formed at the lower end of the body of the container and extending below the bottom thereof and having openings therein, a hoop contacting the inner wall of the flange at the under face of the bottom, straps passing under the bottom and through the hoop and the openings in the flange and up along the sides of the body, the upper end of the body having openings therein through which the straps pass, a hoop in the upper end of the body, a lid resting on the said hoop, said straps passing upwardly a slight distance between the lid and the internal upper wall of the body and then passing inwardly and upwardly, a ring to which the inner ends of the straps are connected, a handle pivotally connected with the ring, a vertically arranged tubular member located in the central part of the body, and the lid having an opening therein for providing access to the tubular member, and a lid for covering said opening and pivoted to the first mentioned lid for swinging movement in a horizontal plane under the ring.
