Abstract
424,117. Moulding hollow blocks in extrusion-machines. PUTTERLIK A SPOL, J., 59, Spalena, Prague. June 22, 1934, Nos. 18519, 18520, and 18521. Convention dates, June 22, 1933, Dec. 12, 1933, and March 26, 1934. [Class 87 (ii)] In extrusionmachines for moulding hollow blocks, filled casings, and the like, in which an extruded column of alternating solid and hollow section is formed into completely-closed hollow blocks or shells by severance through the solid sections, (1) A jacketed core is used to supply the inner plugs of clay to complete the solid sections, and compressed air forced through, or air at atmospheric pressure drawn by suction through the jacket is delivered at the outer end of the core when the feed through the core is interrupted so as to prevent a vacuum being formed in the hollow space succeeding each plug, thus promoting the severance of each plug from the bulk remaining in the core. (2) An adjustable oscillating valve or stop is provided to regulate the admission of clay to the interior of the core. (3) The core is carried on a hinged door forming the front of the extrusion nozzle. In the illustrated form the interchangeable core is carried by the door 2 hinged at 3 and is positioned by pins 6 engaging recesses in the door surface. The core is formed with a jacket 7 through which compressed air is delivered by pipes 9 to the end surface 8. The interior surface of the jacket is preferably waved or corrugated. An oscillating valve 13 alternately covers and uncovers the orifice 16 in the core, the longitudinal axis of the valve being inclined upwardly at about 30 degrees when the orifice is closed. In the modified construction shown in Fig. 4, the valve 19 is reversed and is mounted in a rearward extension of the core. It is stated that other gases such as oxygen, or a liquid such as perfume, or semi-solid or granular material may be forced through the jacket instead of compressed air to fill up the hollow spaces and thus produce a filled article, for example, a shell of soap with a filling of a different quality.
