Nov. 30, 1933, No. 33587. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1932. [Class 35] In submersible motors the casings of which are provided with openings fitted with filters to allow the surrounding liquid to enter to cool the machine, a portion of the liquid is used for film lubrication of the bearings. Fig. 1 shows a machine with an inlet 15 and filter 16 admitting liquid to the thrust bearing 14, and other inlets 17, the liquid escaping past the shaft 9. To resist the liquid the insulation may consist of pure and vulcanized rubber À049" thick covered with tape. In order to provide a starting resistance the end ring 21, Fig. 3, is divided radially, the segments being connected to a ring 23 of high-resistance material. The inner surfaces of the segments are of conical form and when the motor has speeded up a laminated copper block 25 is forced into contact therewith by centrifugal weights 28 acting against a spring 29.
