[Class 7 (ii)] In a multi-cylinder engine, in which the charge is compressed by an exhaust-gas driven turbine, at least two chambers of which receive their gas from separate manifolds connected to an unequal number of cylinders, interference of the exhaust periods is prevented by :-(6a) separating that from the overlapping cylinder by a partition in the manifold, and (b) reducing the cross-section of the turbine nozzle fed by the manifold connected to the lesser number of cylinders. Five, seven, or nine cylinder engines are thus provided with two exhaust pipes only.
