Abstract

Cosmetic salves or salve bases are produced by mixing fatty vegetable oils at elevated temperature with a suspension of small quantities of soap powder in alcohol or other organic solvent or suspending agent, and with at least 1 per cent of natural beeswax and/or the synthetic beeswax marketed by the I. G. Farbenindustrie. About 3--20 per cent by weight, preferably about 10 per cent, of beeswax or beeswax and paraffin are employed. Part of the beeswax may be replaced by carnauba or japan wax, spermaceti or stearin. Substances having cosmetic or therapeutic properties or imparting an aroma may be incorporated. In an example, 1 litre of olive oil heated to 100--120 DEG C., is mixed with a melt of 50 g. beeswax and 50 g. paraffin wax, whereupon 30 g. of sapo durus and 50 g. of alcohol are added, the product after mixing being allowed to cool. To give a higher consistency 3 per cent of cetaceum may be incorporated.ALSO:Salve bases are produced by mixing fatty vegetable oils at elevated temperature with a suspension of small quantities of soap powder in alcohol or other organic solvent or suspending agent, and with at least 1 per cent of natural beexwax or the synthetic beeswax marketed by the I.
