Abstract

A skin-cleansing cream is made by incorporating magnesium hydroxide with a wax and a viscous oily material. The magnesium hydroxide is used in the form of an aqueous suspension and amounts to 0,5--6 per cent of the total weight. White beeswax, spermaceti, ceresin, or paraffin wax, in amounts varying from 1--6 per cent of the total weight, and mineral oil, petrolatum or mixtures thereof, or vegetable oils are employed. Mineral oil and petrolatum may each constitute 30--60 per cent of the product. The water content may vary from 10--30 per cent. A little borax assists the emulsification, and perfumes or colouring agents may be added. The wax, mineral oil, and petrolatum are heated to about 170 DEG F., a mixture of borax with a suspension of magnesium hydroxide added, and the product further heated at 170 DEG F. with agitation to give a semicolloidal suspension. This is cooled, perfume being added when the temperature is about 110 DEG F. Specification 368,458, [Group VI], is referred to.
